NEXT Saturday marks the start of a 30-day period that will almost certainly define Swindon Town’s season.

After the visit of MK Dons next weekend the Robins play every Saturday and Tuesday until the final Sunday. In that time they have to play three of League One’s current top four, two more from the top eight, three who will be fighting tooth and nail to avoid relegation, with the only respite coming against the doomed Yeovil.

Bristol City are out of sight, even if Town win their two games in hand and beat their rivals at Ashton Gate they will be still be five points shy of Steve Cotterill’s team. It is pretty much a three-way shootout for the second automatic spot, with the aforementioned Dons and a resurgent Preston.

Automatic promotion is a more than realistic possibility. It will take chutzpah, fitness, skill and no doubt a bit of luck. It also takes something extra that you, the fans, can provide.

Five of the last nine games are at home, 15 points, this is where a difference can be felt, the inches gained, the platform established.

Yes, points will need to be gained on the road. Results at City, Preston and Rochdale will not come easy, but here the role of the supporters is reduced.

It is at home where the fans can make a difference.

It starts with MK Dons this weekend. The game is being shown live on Sky, it is great for a wider audience to see Mark Cooper’s side, but we are urging you to get up out of your armchair, get along to your local football club and to support the team.

Right now they need you. Any player will tell you the difference a full stadium of loud, passionate and positive fans makes.

All this week the Adver will be promoting our Get the County Ground Rocking campaign.

Every day leading up to Saturday’s big clash we will be promoting the game and urging you the fans to get behind the team.

We will be speaking to greats from the last Swindon side to get promoted into English football’s second tier and let them tell you how you can help the current crop.

You will receive calls from some of the young talent in the squad on what a difference you can make.

The Advertiser asked the club if they wanted to get involved with the campaign and they declined to respond, but we’re going ahead anyway.

So come on let’s carry this team to the Championship, let’s Get the County Ground Rocking.
