TOWN boss Mark Cooper has no problems with Massimo Luongo’s ambitions to move on from the club at the end of the season.

Luongo gave an interview to Australia’s SBS earlier this week where he said he could not see himself being with Swindon next season and that it was probably the right time to move on.

It was not a vastly different comment from Luongo than he gave the last time the Australian media asked him the question. The 23-year-old has remained consistently frank on his desire to play at a higher level.

However, that honesty has not gone down to well with the Town fans who vented their frustrations with the former Tottenham man on social media. A reaction Luongo said he expected in the interview.

The Socceroo starlet’s comments may have upset some sections of the County Ground faithful, but his teammates and manager are not upset with he has a desire to move on.

Cooper understands his star man has big dreams and has challenged him to earn the best move he can by helping guide Town to promotion via the play-offs.

“Massimo is obviously a very ambitious young man,” Cooper told the local media.

“He’s been and played on the international stage and done very well - he’ll know that there will be eyes being cast over his play and the way that he’s played this season.

“He’s got to keep playing and playing well to - if he is going to go - get the best move that he possibly can.

“I’ve got no problem with people being ambitious.

“Young lads could have been leading the questions, you don’t know, but Massimo is really ambitious and he’s given two years of good service to the football club.

“If it’s time for him to move on then it’s time for him to move on.

“I won’t be saying anything to him (about it). I’ll tell him to keep playing.

“What a way - if you are going to leave - to win in the play-offs and get the club promoted.”
