WHEN Swindon travelled to the Withdean Stadium to take on Brighton on April 11, 2009, they did so in the knowledge that Albion had inflicted four defeats out of four on them since an agonising play-off exit there five years earlier.

But after only two seasons in the higher sphere, Albion now found themselves in the drop zone in Division One, with Town not much better off in 18th place.

The man who had grabbed a last-gasp goal to send that play-off tie into a penalty shoot-out - Adam Virgo - lined up once again for the hosts and, when they took a 38th-minute lead, it just had to be the Brighton-born utility man who did the damage.

A deep corner from the right was headed back across the area by Gary Dicker and the Town defence failed to pick up Virgo, who tapped home from two yards out. Appeals for an offside verdict fell on deaf ears.

But after spurning at least two good chances in the opening half, Danny Wilson’s side hit back with a vengeance after the interval.

With less than two minutes played, Jamie Vincent sent a long free-kick into the box, which Billy Paynter headed hopefully towards goal.

But before keeper Michel Kuipers could collect, Gordon Greer - club captain although still only on loan from Doncaster - stabbed the ball into the corner of the net.

Just three minutes later, Town struck again. This time Greer - who would join Albion 15 months later - started the move, launching a long ball forward for Simon Cox to run on to and hit a stinging drive that Kuipers could only parry. Paynter nipped in to finish the job.

And the visitors made it three in 11 minutes when Cox notched his 28h goal of the season. Anthony McNamee curled in a cross from the left which poacher Cox swiftly despatched at the near post with a statuesque Albion defence failing to react.

Dicker beat Phil Smith as the game entered stoppage time but Swindon held firm to record their fourth win in six games to steer themselves six points clear of the bottom four.
