FORMER Swindon Town striker Ray Treacy has died, aged 68, after a short illness.
Treacy scored 18 goals in 60 appearances for the County Ground side after being signed by then-Town boss Dave Mackay from Charlton for £35,000 -then a club record - in 1972.
The Irish international made 42 apperances for his country, 11of which came while at Swindon. He left the club midway through his second season, joining Preston North End in December 1973 for £30,000.
Dublin-born Treacy began his career in his native Ireland with Home Farm but joined West Bromwich Albion as a youngster in 1961.
He enjoyed two spells at the Hawthrons and also playing for Charlton and Shamrock Rovers, scoring the winner for them in the 1978 FAI Cup final and, in 1994, managing them to the league title.
