NATHAN Byrne was delighted to have been named in the PFA League One team of the year.

Massimo Luongo was the only other Town player to receive the nod from his fellow professionals and Byrne described the recognition as a “huge honour”.

Byrne kept out one of Bristol City’s star men, Mark Little, for the slot on the right-hand side of the team. Though the rest of the team is dominated by the League One champions and includes unpopular former Town defender Aden Flint.

For Byrne he takes great pleasure in being named in the select side because it is voted on by other players.

“It’s a huge honour, especially coming from votes from players, which I think means a little bit more because over the season they’ve seen it all,” Byrne told the local media.

“It’s a huge honour for me and Mass and everyone at Swindon.

“When you see most teams of the year, the team that wins the title usually has four or five in it, which is just natural. I think it was the same with Chelsea in the Premier League and that’s only fair. They aren’t up there for no reason.

“A lot more of the boys could have got into it but it’s only fair that the team who are champions have more in it.”
