SWINDON Town supporters and local businesses have dipped their hands in pockets to help fan activist Jay Collett put on a big display for the Robins at Wembley.

Collett who, with the help of a £200 donation from the Advertiser, organised an impressive streamer display at Bramall Lane, using the rest of the funds for balloons and other atmosphere-building items which helped the fans raise the decibel level at Monday’s night remarkable second leg.

The Adver has now stumped up a further £500 helping Collett past his £5,000 target, with local travel company and Town shirt sponsor, Imagine Cruising, stumping up over £2,000 to take the total to £6,685.

The money will create a mosaic display at the Swindon end of Wembley, similar to the one put on Aston Villa fans at their FA Cup semi-final.

Collett is delighted with the response he has got from the Swindon Town community.

“I think the whole consensus now is that these little extra bits do help get the fans up for it," said Collett.

"People said after Monday night like it was the Town End of old. It’s good to get the fans involved.

“At first when I started organising stuff like this at Port Vale the fans were a bit quiet about it, it didn’t bother them, they didn’t mind. Some were looking forward it and a handful who said this is stupid and embarrassing.

“I’ve had a few messages since last Thursday and Monday, I know I wasn’t very pleasant before, but I admit now it’s definitely a good thing.”
