A WIN at Wembley for Swindon Town could mean so much more than just seeing them lifted to the Championship.

With the future of several first team players yet to be settled, the prospect of playing in a higher division could prove to be the difference between who stays and who goes over the summer.

That is the case for Australian star Massimo Luongo, with his mentor David Magrone not ruling out him staying at the County Ground if Mark Cooper can get Swindon promoted next weekend.

When asked if Wembley could be the last time Town fans see Luongo in the red and white of Swindon, Magrone replied: “I think it is a distinct possibility but if the result is positive and Swindon go up, it is not something that he will run away from because it is the Championship.

“There are Championship clubs interested in him but if Swindon are going to play in the Championship, he has got to consider that as well.”

As has been the case for many games this season, there were a number of faces in amongst the County Ground crowd on Monday night keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old.

Aston Villa have been reported this week as being in advanced talks to sign the Australian but Magrone has said that there has been no further movement in recent weeks, with Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and QPR all also linked to the midfielder.

“There is no update. There is plenty of interest but there is nothing concrete,” added Magrone.

“There are still other priorities for a lot of clubs. If you take Aston Villa for example, they have not 100 per cent secured their survival yet, so once they are assured of that, maybe that will move forward.

“There is still a lot of interest and the fact that he is still on a stage - he has got Wembley coming up in a week, so it is important that he plays well and I am sure there will be more eyes on him then.

“It is the last time people will really see him before they are going to have to make decisions.”
