MASSIMO Luongo says that he’s desperate to try and put talk over his future to the back of his mind to avoid being crushed by the weight of speculation.

The 22-year-old Australian international has understandably become hot property over the course of the season following his standout performances for his country as they lifted the Asian Cup – Luongo was named player of the tournament – and his displays at the County Ground.

The rumour mill looks set to crank into overdrive over the summer, with the Town man heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa or Queens Park Rangers, but Luongo is keen for a rest, even if he’ll be jetting off to feature for his country in a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan on June 16.

The Aussie ace remains confident that he can play at a higher level but says that he’s happy to leave his future in the hands of ‘the right people’.

“It’s always interesting in the off-season but I think I deserve a little break to just switch off and not worry about anything and that’s exactly what I’m going to do,” said Luongo.

“I think over the past seasons, worrying about the transfer windows never does me any good. It sort of just plays on my mind a little bit, so I think I’ve learned to just let the right people who are involved in it take care of that.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I let the right people deal with that. If the club get offers, they’ll tell me, and if they get interest, they’ll tell me.

“I’ll get phone-calls or I won’t get calls. That’s how it works.

“I think I’m ready. I always want to push myself to play at a higher level, on a bigger stage.

“If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, I’ve just got to get my head down and work even harder.”

Luongo isn’t sure if he’s played his last game in the red and white of Swindon and the midfielder was keen to reflect on the highs of an expectation-shattering Town campaign, rather than the bitter disappointment of their Wembley mauling at the hands of Preston North End.

He said: “It is (disappointing). But with the season we had as a team and where we were expected to be, it’s massive.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the lads and staff. Even myself; I’ve had a half-decent season.

“It isn’t the nicest thing to go out on but it’s been a special season I can’t forget.”
