BRANDON Ormonde-Ottewill is looking forward to his first taste of first team football having signed a two-year deal with Swindon Town.

The 19-year-old former Arsenal youth product confirmed to the Advertiser that he has signed on at the County Ground after his contract with the North London club expired.

Ormonde-Ottewill visited training at the County Ground before Town’s play-off final defeat at Wembley last month and was impressed by what he saw.

The attacking left full-back spoke to Town manager Mark Cooper and chairman Lee Power about how he would fit into the side.

The England Under 19 player was reassured by their record with young players and is eager to get a new chapter in his life and career started.

“I’m looking forward to my first taste of men’s competitive football, that’s what I wanted to do this season,” Ormonde-Ottewill told the Adver today.

“I’m a bit past the Under 21s phase, so going into men’s first team football is going to be a big step up and I’m ready to take on the challenge.

“Swindon have got a good record with young players and they still have a young team. I’m looking forward to adapting to that really.

“I heard there was a bit of interest from Swindon and I wasn’t getting another contract at Arsenal. I like the way Swindon play and I went down to the stadium, met the manager and chairman and they were happy to go ahead with the deal.”

Ormonde-Ottewill is the first Town signing of the summer and despite the squad currently being light on numbers the youngster knows he will have to fight for his first team spot.

“I talked to Mark Cooper and Lee Power about how I would fit into the system,” he added.

“Without going into it in too much detail they talked about what kind of football they like to play there and what they’ll be expecting, how they’ve got a young team so don’t worry about making mistakes.

“It’s an upcoming club, but they didn’t go into too much detail about whether it would be a starting place or what would be happening. When you go into any side you’re expecting competition, so it’s about that and, if you get the opportunity, really fighting for your place.

“I know I have got to earn that starting spot.”
