TOWN’s new young gun Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill chose Swindon Town as the destination to start his first-team career because he “loves” the way the club play.

Ormonde-Ottewill announced he had signed a two-year deal at the County Ground on the Advertiser’s website yesterday.

The 20-year-old has been schooled in Arsenal’s footballing philosophy at their London Colney training ground, where the youngsters are trained to follow Arsene Wenger’s possession-based approach.

Last season Town enjoyed great success employing a similar system, regularly bossing possession of the ball, even on their travels to some of League One’s big boys.

Given Swindon’s style it is no surprise Ormonde-Ottewill sees the move as a good fit and explains why he chose to sign on at Town over other suitors.

“There were a couple of other clubs interested, but I love the way Swindon play,” the former England Under 19 international told the Advertiser.

“I don’t know many teams in League One, or even in the league above, that play that sort of football – you know the ball down on the floor, attacking football.

“It will be a nice transition for me, because I’m used to that style of football. It’s not going into a complete change, it’s a very similar way of playing.

“I like the way they play, the system and that they’ve got a young side.

“It’s good to be in that environment with a mix of a little bit of experience as well, I’m looking forward to it.

“All my injury issues are in the past. I had an ankle injury that kept me out for four or five months last season. That was quite frustrating.

“I’m having a bit of a rest and I’ll get for a ‘pre’ pre-season in a week or so.”

For Ormonde-Ottewill the move to Swindon represents more than just a change of club.

He will be living on his own for the first time and the young defender understands it is a big change, but he is relishing it, especially the challenge of getting in boss Mark Cooper’s starting XI.

“Changing environments is part of football,” he added.

“You get a move anytime, anywhere, and my main focus is going to be playing and nothing else.

“It’s going to be the first time living alone and it’s a big change, but I’m excited for this new chapter and ready to go.

“Only I can perform on the pitch and it’s up to the gaffer what he does. Of course my dream and my aim is to hold down a starting XI spot or play a number of games in the first team.”

Having played in England’s youth set-up, Ormonde-Ottewill knows former Town loanee John Swift.

They passed like ships in the night when the defender came to visit the County Ground, but the former Arsenal man will try and seek the advice of Swift on life with Swindon.

“I know John Swift well. When I went to visit he had a calf strain and he was back at Chelsea so I didn’t see him, otherwise I would have spoken to him whilst I was there," he said.

“I have played with him a couple of times, I’ll probably need to grab his number.”
