SWINDON Town have been charged by the Football Association over their approach for striker Jermaine Hylton last season.

Town brought in frontman Hylton at the start of January from Southern League side Redditch United.

However, the Worcestershire club complained to the FA about how the County Ground side went about their courting of the 22-year-old, which was reported by the Advertiser back in January.

After several months of investigations the club have now been charged.

A statement from the FA read: “Breach of Rule C.2(a)(ii) - It is alleged that on or around 1 January 2015 Swindon Town FC approached a Player, Jermaine Hylton, without giving seven days’ formal written notice to Redditch United FC, the club to which he was registered.”

In response to the charge, Redditch chairman Chris Swan said: "The FA’s decision to charge Swindon is justification of how deeply aggrieved we felt when they signed Jermaine.

"We put a lot of time and effort into developing players and this shows that non-league clubs like ours shouldn't be bullied by Football League sides.

"This is definitely a step forward and we'll see what happens."

The club refused to comment when contacted by the Advertiser for a response to the charge.
