IN his brief cameo at the County Ground on Sunday Ryan Kent certainly caught the eye, but it appears unlikely he that will become Swindon’s latest loan signing from Liverpool.

Chairman Lee Power admitted during Monday night’s phone-in on BBC Wiltshire that Kent was more likely to be lining up in the Championship than for the Robins.

MK Dons are thought to be leading the chase for the 18-year-old, but a number of other clubs from the second tier are also interested.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers made his positive feelings about Town known before his side’s friendly at the County Ground on Sunday. However Power is not confident the Liverpool manager’s personal opinion will be enough to determine Kent’s destination.

“I said to Brendan (Rodgers) I was going to put him (Ryan Kent) in the boot of the car and keep him here for a month,” said the Town chairman.

“You could see the talent the boy has and the problem is there are many teams in the Championship that want him.

“We had a long chat with Brendan after and he explained that to us.

“I know that Brendan is keen for him to come to us because he said in the press (on Sunday) that we were one of the few clubs that they would like to loan their players out to, which is quite nice for the football club.

“If we can attract someone like Ryan, which is going to be difficult and is looking very unlikely at the moment, but if he was to come then it would be a huge, huge signing.”
