IN THE LATEST bizarre twist of the Jordan Stewart to Swindon Town story, the Glentoran forward did not arrive, as expected, in Wiltshire yesterday to further discuss the move.

Glens chairman Stephen Henderson told sources in Belfast on Monday night that his widely coveted striker was due to travel to England on Tuesday for further talks over his proposed move.

Now Town chairman Lee Power has revealed that the 20-year-old was a no-show for their appointment yesterday.

"We wanted Jordan in the squad for Tuesday, there are agents involved and every Tom, Dick and Harry," Power told BBC Wiltshire.

"To be honest with you, it got a bit messy.

"We expected him to be here at midday on Tuesday and he's not turned up.

"I don't think it's the lad. I'm not sure about the communication between the agent and the club, but it's not very professional."

Indications are that the deal for Stewart is still progressing, with reports suggesting the player will travel to Wiltshire once the details of the ove are finalised.

With Stewart’s arrival delayed Town are left with Michael Smith and Miles Storey, who was named in a Swindon matchday squad for the first time since the 2013/14 season against Port Vale, as the only fit strikers.

However despite Smith pledging his allegiance to Town on Tuesday he could well still be on the move. If that is the case, Power will look to plug the gap in his attack with a short-term deal.

"There has been interest in Smith from Barnsley and two other teams now as well," Power added.

"We have a little bit of a crisis and are down to one striker so we are trying to get another one in. We are looking at a short-term loan and if something does happen with 'Smithy', we need to bring a permanent one in.

“We won't leave the team without a striker.

"There are ongoing talks with various parties and we are working hard behind the scenes to bring some people in."
