JON Obika was Swindon Town’s hero at Doncaster Rovers for the second season in a row as he netted a stoppage time equaliser this evening.

Obika lashed a late winner when these two sides last met at the Keepmoat Stadium back in March and was Mark Cooper’s man on the spot this time around too.

Former Town striker Andy Williams had looked set to inflict a fourth straight League One defeat on his old side as he scored what seemed a winning penalty with 10 minutes to go.

Williams finished as Town’s top scorer last season but was allowed to leave on a free transfer over the summer when his contract was not renewed.

Keshi Taylor-Sinclair had earlier cancelled out Nicky Ajose’s opener for Town two minutes into the second half.

The game got off to an end-to-end start, although genuine scoring opportunities were kept to a minimum during the opening skirmishes.

Fabien Robert looked Town’s most creative player after being restored to his preferred number 10 role and James Brophy got forward well out wide, while the lively Anderson kept the visiting back-line on their toes.

It was Anderson who the game’s first clear-cut chance fell to after 25 minutes as Richard Chaplow threaded the ball in to him in the box but Jordan Williams got in a crucial challenge to divert out for a corner.

From there Town broke at speed and Henrik Ojamaa collected possession just outside the Donny box and sent a curling effort inches wide of the post.

Town continued to look dangerous on the break but Donny took control of the contest in the closing minutes of the half and perhaps should have edged into the break ahead.

Former Swindon striker Williams missed his big chance to score against his former club when he was picked out at the back post by James Coppinger’s floated cross, although he could only head across goal and wide after climbing above the visiting defence.

More chances came Williams’ way before the interval, the first when Harry Middleton sent in a low cross but the ball was behind the Rovers hitman who can only scoop it over the Town bar, and the second was a snap-shot following a free-kick which was deflected wide.

Town had finished the half on the ropes but whatever Cooper said to his troops at the interval certainly worked as they took the lead within two minutes of the restart.

Donny were caught napping and Ajose latched onto a ball over the top of the defence from Ojamaa and looped the ball over the advancing Thorsten Struckmann to break the deadlock.

The visitors could have been 2-0 ahead soon afterwards as Ajose was again given space to run into space but this time his low effort from the left-hand side was smothered by Struckmann.

Another of Donny’s ex-Town men, Dany N'Guessan, then had a good chance to restore parity when he climbed highest to meet James Horsfield's free-kick from the right but the substitute could only head straight into the arms of keeper Ty Belford.

Louis Thompson was then unable to give Town breathing space when Struckman could only punch Ojamaa’s cross but the on-loan Norwich midfielder blasted over from 15 yards after the ball fell nicely to him.

The visitors were made to pay for that miss as Rovers drew level with 15 minutes to go, although there was more than a hint of controversy about the goal.

Anderson was afforded too much space in the box and curled into the far corner from 15 yards but Town had been forced to defend that a man light, though, as Drissa Traore was down on halfway holding his face for a full 30 seconds before the goal.

Town then had keeper Belford to thank for keeping them all-square immediately after the kick-off when he pulled off a super save to deny N'Guessan.

The hosts did not have to wait long to go in front, though, and did so with 10 minutes to play when Coppinger was sent tumbling in the box by Traore and Rovers striker Williams looked like he had finally come back to haunt his old club, lashing confidently into the bottom corner from the spot.

However, there was still time for one more twist as Town snatched a share of the spoils in stoppage time when substitute Obika got on the end of Yaser Kasim’s corner to divert into the net and earn his side a point.
