FLEETWOOD have become the latest League One team to part company with their manager after sacking manager Graham Alexander following Tuesday's 5-1 defeat by Gillingham.

The 43-year-old has been at the club since December 2012 but has been dismissed after just two wins this season.

The Scot leaves Fleetwood 20th in Sky Bet League One.

Alexander guided the team to the third tier for the first time in their history with victory over Burton in 2014 play-off final.

Speaking after the heavy defeat at Priestfield, Alexander told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm the manager, of course I take responsibility.

"I'm not stupid, I don't hide, I'm a man. I've been through hard times as a player, I've been through hard times as a manager and this is a hard time."

Fleetwood chairman Andy Pilley said: "It is an extremely unpleasant part of being chairman having to make such a decision, however ultimately, for a number of reasons; I felt this was in the best interests of the club.

"I would like to place on record my personal thanks for the success Graham brought us with the promotion to League One, his supreme professionalism and for all the hard work he invested over his time here at Fleetwood, and wish him all the best for the future."
