BLACKPOOL boss Neil McDonald is looking for his side to build on the confidence boosting win over Chesterfield on Tuesday night as they face Swindon Town at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

The Tangerines’ 2-0 win over the Spireites means they now have the chance to gain two wins in a row against sides that reached the play-offs last season.

The win on Tuesday was Blackpool’s first at home since January, but McDonald is not going to get ahead of himself. His side have produced good performances already this season and failed to follow it up with a sequence of results.

Having secured their first three points of the campaign at Scunthorpe at the start of the month, they then collected one point from the next three games.

As such the Bloomfield Road boss is pleased to see an upturn in fortunes, but remains cautious in his optimism.

“It seems to be one step forward, two steps back, two steps forward, one step back, so it’s going to be a topsy-turvy (spell),” he said.

“The confidence (the players) gained the other night off the back of the win against Chesterfield has done them no harm whatsoever and we’re looking for that performance again on Saturday.

“We want to take six points out of six from the two home games. We have a great chance because won the first one already.

“We have try and get that consistency as much as we can now. The next goal is get a little bit of a run going. We’ve got a chance now with another home game to put some points up on the board.”

McDonald has shuffled his pack a lot as he looks to bring together a squad with a lot of new faces after relegation from the Championship last season. He has now settled on asking for hard work rather than trying to solve things tactically “(After changing formations a lot recently) now it’s get back to basics, let’s win the battle whoever you’re playing against,” he added.

“ (Playing) 4-4-2, it seems to suit the players. I like playing two up top and we need everyone to be on top of their game as much as they can from now until the end of the season.

“Coming into the two games (Tuesday and Saturday), Chesterfield, got to the play-offs last year and Swindon did as well that we just have to concentrate on ourselves. We have got to get to that level on intensity and stop the opposition playing because they’re a good team.”
