SWINDON Town chairman Lee Power has said that he is working on bringing in two loan signings to help plug the defensive gap left by Tuesday night’s defeat to Oxford.

On a fans radio phone-in, on BBC Wiltshire, Power said that it was still early days but hoped that one of them would be an experienced player from the league above that fans would be excited by.

Swindon head into Saturday’s game with Peterborough with Raphael Branco as the only fit central defender available and Power understands the urgency needed to bring in some reinforcements.

“We’re trying to bring a couple of players in on loan,” he said.

“It has only been since last night, so these things take a while, but we’re hoping to have two in by Saturday.

“I think at the start of the season the squad that we put together looked like a talented squad and still is.

“We didn’t think that we would have this many problems at this part of the season with injuries and form.

“At the moment we need to pick up points, and quickly, and if we can do that in the next couple of games then we are not too far off the play-offs.

“It is not a good position, and not the position I thought we would be in, but we only have ourselves to blame.”

Meanwhile, Power also revealed that there had been more movement on the new training ground, which will be in the borough, with contracts due to be exchanged at the end of the month having had an offer accepted in August.

“We’re hoping to have it exchanged by the end of the month so it is all moving along nicely and it will be a lot of expense,” added Power.

“It is going to take a while to build what we need to build out there but it is exciting and probably the best thing that is going to happen to this football club.”
