SCUNTHORPE United assistant boss Ned Kelly says that his team are hungry for the challenge of Martin Ling’s Swindon Town.

Former Republic of Ireland striker Kelly thinks that there is every chance that the fabled ‘new manager effect’ will be charming the County Ground on Saturday as Ling takes charge of his first home game.

But with Town nonetheless in poor form, United will arrive in Wiltshire with a steely determination to claim all three points.

“They’ve got a new manager in Martin Ling, so it will be a different team to what we have seen previously,” Kelly told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

“We will look at them and give them lots of respect because they are a good team but we will be looking to come back with three points.

“They will possibly change things because they haven’t had a good start and Martin is an experienced manager.

“I’m delighted he has been given an opportunity to get back into football. We will shake hands and have a beer after the game and hopefully, we would have won.

“It will be a difficult game facing a team with a new manager and things could change quite a lot from when Mark Cooper was in charge.

“Martin has had a good managerial career so far and he will want his own take on how they play, how they keep (the ball), and how they press, and we are looking forward to a tough challenge.

“You would think chairman Lee Power will be looking for a reaction from the whole of the group because that is why he made the change.

“Martin will have his own ideas and has had a little bit of time to work on his team, so we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Meanwhile, Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins isn’t ruling out making a last-gasp loan signing ahead of Saturday’s game.
