IRON boss Mark Robins thought his side should have won the game as they succumbed to what he saw as ‘two poor goals’ in defeat to Town.

Robins was forced into playing a depleted side and was missing five first team players, but refused to use that as excuse for what he thought was a below-par performance from his Scunthorpe team.

Despite their lowly status in League One, the Scunthorpe boss insisted Town were a decent team, however he was firm in his belief that his side should have done better.

Jordan Clarke’s goal did almost rescue the game for the visitors as they hit the post in a spell of late pressure on Swindon’s back line, but Robins bemoaned the inability of his side to control the game for longer.

“Had we defended better, they wouldn’t have won the game,” said Robins.

“We should have won the game, I feel disappointed, but that’s football it kicks you in the teeth at times.

“Right from the start and all the way through we weren’t good enough.

“We could have won this game hands down inside the opening 20 minutes and we decided that for whatever reason that we’d take our time.

“Two poor goals from us and then we had an uphill task to try and get back in it.

“(Swindon) are a decent side. I think they controlled the game for some spells and managed to get two goals at good times for them.

“I saw quite a bit of Swindon last year and I thought that they were clearly one of the better footballing sides in the division and they’ve still got some good players.

“They were missing one or two players today, but what they have managed to do is get the majority of the players they had last year back in. For (Andy) Williams and (Michael) Smith up front they’ve got Wes Thomas, (Jonathan) Obika and (Nicky) Ajose. So they’ve got some decent talent there.
