SWINDON Town target Sean Hoare trained with the club last week as they ponder signing for the Irish defender.

The Advertiser understands that Hoare, 21, spent a few days in Wiltshire last week as Town's management team assessed whether to make a move for the St Patrick's Athletic player.

Town are the latest English club to show an interest in Hoare's services.  Following impressive performances in the League of Ireland last season the Republic of Ireland Under 21 international spent time on trial with Championship side Hull last season, with Premier League Swansea City and League Two Portsmouth also believed to be among the interested parties.

An asking price believed to be in the region of €250,000 is reckoned to have put off the Tigers.

Reports in Ireland claimed Swindon would need to part with a five-figure sum to have a chance of landing Hoare, although the fee would be decided by tribunal with the defender out of contract at Richmond Park.

Meanwhile, BetVictor have made former Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper the 5/1 favourite to replace the sacked John Still at League Two side Luton Town.

The Hatters parted company with Still today after four straight defeats.

The 65-year-old took the reins at Kenilworth Road in February 2013 and led the club to the Conference title in his first full season in charge.

The Hatters finished eighth in their first campaign back in Sky Bet League Two but have struggled to replicate that form this term and sit 17th ahead of Saturday's trip to Exeter.

Academy and development boss Andy Awford - second favourite behind Cooper in the betting - has taken charge of the side on a caretaker basis and will be assisted by the existing backroom staff.
