IN-FORM full-back Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill says he can see signs that Swindon Town’s defensive resolve is improving.

Town have shipped eight goals in their last two home games and are likely to be kept busy again on Saturday as they host the hottest side in League One at the moment.

Barnsley travel to the County Ground looking to make it six wins on the bounce in the league, with the Tykes plundering 16 goals across those five victories.

Town’s full-backs have a licence to get forward, with both Ormonde-Ottewill and Bradley Barry contributing well to attacks in recent matches.

Although that does mean they are likely to be caught short at the back if they give up possession, Ormonde-Ottewill thinks the rewards make it worth the risk.

Swindon restricted Sheffield United to a single goal at Bramall Lane in their last match, with that only coming via the penalty spot, and the 20-year-old thinks they are becoming harder to break down.

“We stretched the play (against Sheffield United) and both me and Brad tried to get forward as much as we could,” Ormonde-Ottewill, who scored a late equaliser at Bramall Lane, told the local media.

“The midfielders come across to take our slots and help us out a bit defensively. Sometimes, we can get caught out where we are a bit too open but it worked in the end.

“I think Jordan Turnbull and Rafa Branco have been so solid. They work together all the time in training as well, so when it comes to a match, it is just natural for them to head out of the box.

“But not only that; they can bring it down and they are football players, so there are two good players there and I think the defence is looking solid, to be fair.

“That was a Swindon performance and if we can do that a bit more this season, we will find ourselves climbing up the table much more, which we are doing.

“We just need to continue that kind of football and that drive to get forward.”

The Town defence had a new man to play behind at Bramall Lane as Michael Doughty made his debut and Ormonde-Ottewill was impressed by what he saw from the Queens Park Rangers loanee.

“Michael slotted in very good. He has proved it in training since the day he has come. You can see that he has got talent and he did well on Saturday,” added Ormonde-Ottewill.

“He won a few tackles and broke up play but also was good going forwards, so it looked like he can do both defending and attacking, which is good for the side.”
