TOTAL domination is Luke Williams’ Swindon Town master plan.

Town remain unbeaten after three games under Williams’ stewardship, with last weekend’s creditable 1-1 draw at Sheffield United their first match with their former first team coach as permanent manager, and are back at the County Ground today as they host Barnsley.

In beating Southend and Crewe Alexandra, and drawing with the Blades at Bramall Lane, Swindon scored nine goals but conceding six times along the way and Williams is striving for his team to solidify at the back.

But that remains just one facet of the Town chief’s vision as he and his charges look to evolve their progressive, possession-based style into one that sees them never out of the box seat.

“For sure, we’re always trying to play the perfect game,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire. “There’s never a game plan ever that says ‘okay, we know we know we’re going to concede but we’ll try and (outscore the opposition)’.

“We try and make sure that it’s a performance where all of the chances are created by Swindon, we give no attempts on goal to the opposition, we have all the ball, and we tick some of those boxes – not all of them – every week, and that’s what we’re striving for.

“We’ll never be happy and we’ll never stop until we get somewhere close to that.

“I think, at the County Ground, we’re all bracing ourselves for goals.

“We’re going out there with the intention of keeping a clean sheet – that’s 100 per cent for sure – but the reality is that the teams are very competitive and both of these teams (Swindon and Barnsley) are capable of scoring goals.

“Winning is first and foremost but we want to entertain people.”

“The players want to play where they can express themselves and I think that’s something that every fan should be entitled to: excitement and some sort of attacking edge to the game.”

Williams is also expecting a challenging test when his side lock horns with Lee Johnson’s Barnsley.

The south Yorkshire outfit are unbeaten in five League One outings and put six goals past Rochdale last weekend before besting local rivals Bradford City 1-0 on Tuesday.

“We’re looking up, not down and we’ll approach the game the same way that we’ve approached all of them; to make sure we’re trying to win,” said the Swindon manager.

“I don’t think there’s any team, really, that you can take lightly and you saw Crewe here the other week well in front at one point in the game and we had a hell of a fight to turn that around.

“So there’s no teams that you can write off. Barnsley are a competitive side and the manager is very competitive, and he’ll never send his team out to give less than 100 per cent.”
