LAWRENCE VIGOUROUX – 7

Not his busiest afternoon but proved a crucial last line of defence as Barnsley looked to catch Town on the counter attack. Could do nothing about the goal.

RAPHAEL BRANCO – 7

Benefitted from having an extra man sitting back alongside him and had on-loan Manchester United striker Ash Fletcher’s number all afternoon.

NATHAN THOMPSON – 6

Handed a first start in more than four months and his rustiness was clear early on. Looked half a step off the pace and a little flustered in possession but got stronger as the game went on.

JORDAN TURNBULL – 6

Solid if unspectacular and another whose confidence was helped by the skipper’s presence. Perhaps should have done better with the Barnsley goal.

BRADLEY BARRY – 6

A change to three at the back meant he did not have to worry about defending as much and was allowed to stay in his more comfortable attacking positions. Subbed at half-time due to injury.

YASER KASIM – 7

Looked right up for it at the start and was hungry to get on the ball but his influence on the game decreased the longer it went on.

MICHAEL DOUGHTY – 6

Started very strongly and showed an array of precise passes but faded and had little impact on the game after the break.

FABIEN ROBERT – 7

Some nice touches in the middle of the park and was Town’s most creative player as usual but could not quite find that one killer pass to create a goal scoring chance. Subbed.

BRANDON ORMONDE-OTTEWILL – 7

Another strong performance and also seemed to benefit from having a reduced defensive workload. Kept Tykes right-back James Bree on his toes.

JONATHAN OBIKA – 5

One excellent touch, turn and shot aside, he struggled to make an impact against a physical Barnsley defence and did not see much of the ball as a result.

NICKY AJOSE – 6

Went looking for the ball and made some intelligent runs but his team-mates struggled to pick him out and it was one of those quiet afternoons. Subbed.

SUBSTITUTES:

JAMES BROPHY – 6

(For Barry, HT) Filled in nicely where Barry left off but his touch let him down on occasions and did not look quite as threatening.

JEREMY BALMY – 3

(For Robert, 77) His only meaning contribution was to have a needless square-up with Lloyd Isgrove to earn a yellow card.

MICHAEL SMITH – 5

(For Ajose, 77) Did not get long enough to make an impact on the game. Perhaps should have been introduced sooner.
