SWINDON Town chairman Lee Power has said the return of Norwich midfielder Louis Thompson is imminent as he prepares himself for the final day of the transfer window.

Thompson returned to his parent club earlier this month after picking up an injury but could be back in the side this month as Swindon look to bring him in on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

“We’ve been on the phone to Norwich this week and we’re hoping to get the paperwork signed on that pretty soon,” Power told BBC Wiltshire.

“(Thompson’s) recovery is going well so he will be here sooner rather than later.’’ Meanwhile, the future of Iraq international Yaser Kasim could go down to the wire as clubs continue to show interest in the 24-year-old.

“We’re still waiting on the outcome of Yaser,’’ added Power.

“We have had a lot of interest in him and obviously the time is ticking a little bit.

“We’ll know by Monday if that actually comes to fruition. There are two Premier League teams who have made heavy enquiries so we’ll see where we are.”

Meanwhile the potential incomings at the County Ground today look subject to who departs before the 11pm deadline this evening.

Michael Smith, who came on as a second-half substitute on Saturday, has been available for a transfer during the window, but having played for both Town and Barnsley this season Power says that the deal is not straight forward.

“It is a difficult situation with Michael because he has been on loan. It is a complicated deal where he has to go on loan and then a permanent and the paperwork is quite complex,” he added.

“There have been three or four teams interested in him but nothing concrete where we have actually agreed fees.”

Swindon have made an approach to Liverpool during the window to sign goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux on a permanent basis, but added extras appear to be a stumbling block, while Power is keeping an eye on Exeter striker Tom Nichols.

“We made an offer. They have come back with some other bits and we are yet to talk with Lawrence’s people,” said Power.

“It is something we would have liked to have tied up this window but if we can’t then maybe it will have to wait until the end of the season.

“We did make an offer for Tom (Nichols), along with three or four other teams.

“Exeter’s valuation is a lot more than ours and a lot more than the other two or three clubs that bid as well.

“We were looking at that situation with the eyes that Michael Smith was going to go but at the minute Michael is still here.’’ “If Michael is here there is no way we can do that deal.

“If something was to happen over the next couple of days and Michael goes than maybe that is something we can go back to.”

Meanwhile, Yelko Pino’s stay with the club looks to be over before it has started with the Spanish forward unlikely to make an appearance for the club.
