GOALKEEPER Lawrence Vigouroux is in little doubt that he’s developed immeasurably by securing his first taste of first-team football at Swindon Town.

Away from the protective bubble of U21 football at Liverpool, the 22-year-old, who also spent time with Tottenham Hotspur’s youth set-up, has taken his maiden steps into the senior game and experienced everything that comes with the results business.

That includes abuse from opposition supporters but Vigouroux, who reckons that he’s getting back to his best after a mid-season dip in form, says that he’s taking it all in his stride.

“You’ve got the fans on one end giving me a lot of stick and you’ve just go to adjust to it,” Vigouroux told BBC Wiltshire.

“It’s something that I’ve got used to from the beginning of the season and now it’s nothing for me – I can deal with it.

“I think I’ve learned to deal with it and I think I’ll be much better in the weeks leading up to the end of the season.

“I enjoy it, to be fair – it makes me smile. I started off the season well, had a little bit of a dip in form, and I think I’m much better for it.

“I’ve gone through a lot of things this season where, in 21s, I wouldn’t have gone through, so I think I’m very happy to be in and around League One, playing in front of good crowds.”

Inexperienced trio Ellis Iandolo, Lee Marshall and James Brophy all came off the bench during last weekend’s goalless draw at Gillingham and Vigouroux was full of praise for his up-and-coming team-mates.

He said: “I think the young players have been exceptional in training. They’ve been knocking on the door to try and get minutes, so it’s good to see them on the pitch.

“I thought they did well. I think they just need a few more minutes and they’ll get the confidence to maybe even start matches for us in League One, so that’s good.

“We’ve got a good bunch of lads. They’re very caring for the young players, so it’s good for the team that we’ve got a good academy here with players coming through.”

The Town stopper also racked up his fourth clean sheet of the season at the Priestfield Stadium and hopes the team can build on their defensively-solid performance.

“We can take this into Colchester. We came (to Gillingham) and tried to win and we’re going to go to Colchester and try to win again,” said Vigouroux.

“We’ll just do what we can as a team. We’ll work hard in training over the next week and hopefully we’ll go to Colchester to get another three points to get us higher in the table.”
