COLCHESTER may not have won a league game since mid-October, but Town boss Luke Williams has no intention of letting raw statistics lull his side into a false sense of security tomorrow afternoon (3pm).

Even the introduction of a new manager, Kevin Keen, in December has failed to lift the U’s from the mire, the Essex side having lost 12 times in 15 games as they prop up League One.

Last weekend’s 3-0 defeat by Southend meant Keen’s troops remained cut adrift at the basement, eight points off safety, but Williams is well aware what a victory over Swindon, whose last away win came at Shrewsbury before Christmas, would mean to them.

“You talk about Southend, they came here (to the County Ground) and they were locked in the changing room for two hours afterwards such was the manager’s (Phil Brown) disgust at that,’’ Williams, who had defender Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill rule himself out of the trip tonight, told BBC Wiltshire.

“They then had a reaction off the back of that and they’ve been on good form since they came here, so Colchester will be doing a similar thing.

“They (Colchester) are clearly a team that have not found what is costing them so much and they will be searching for that day in and day out.

“There will be plenty of soul-searching at training and the players will be trying to find the answer to why they are not picking up results.

“We’ve got to be careful with that and we’ve got to guard against that.”

League One’s most generous defence - with 68 goals conceded - would appear to be an inviting target for Town’s front-line, albeit one that has struggled somewhat itself recently with three goals scored in the last four matches.

“You saw last week that we played a tough game against Gillingham where we tried to control the game, we went there and tried to take our style of play to them,’’ added Williams.

“It was near on impossible with the conditions of the pitch and the wind and the opposition as well.

“We’ll be going to Colchester to try and dominate the football again and try to create plenty of chances, but there is no guarantees that will be the case.”

Defender Ormonde-Ottewill posted a message on Twitter tonight saying he would not be fit to feature against Colchester, although the post was subsequently deleted.
