THE ADVER takes a look at Swindon Town's next League One opponents, Chesterfield.

THE CHALKBOARD

CHESTERFIELD’S form on the road this season has far outweighed their form at the Proact Stadium.

Away from home, Danny Wilson’s side seemingly cast off their shackles and play with more freedom, with results lending credence to this apparent trend – their win percentage away from the Proact is 43 per cent, which is 11 per cent ahead of the League One average.

The Spireites would also be ninth in the table if only away matches counted, but their home record, which is the fourth-worst in the division, paints a much-less rosy picture and provides a major clue behind their lowly league position.

Wilson allows his side more flexibility on their travels but ahead of a trip to his old stomping ground, the Chesterfield chief is likely to send out his troops in a 4-4-1-1 formation.

THE LIKELY LINE-UP

Swindon Advertiser:

MAN IN FORM

TIME and again this season, Chesterfield’s standout player has been central defender Chris Herd.

The three-time Australia international, who has 36 Premier League appearances under his belt from his time with Aston Villa, penned a four-month deal after initially joining the Spireites on a free transfer in September and on January 14, he committed his future further by extending his contract until the end of the current campaign.

All-action, Herd has impressed at the heart of Chesterfield’s defence and has been head and shoulders above his team-mates on many an occasion.

But even his impressive individual form hasn’t been enough to inspire many clean sheets – the Spireites have kept just three with the 27-year-old Aussie in their line-up all season.

TREATMENT ROOM

THE SPIREITES have a handful of long-term absentees through injury, although there haven’t been too many additions to the treatment room in recent weeks.

Skipper Ian Evatt is out for the remainder of the season with an Achilles injury whilst Spanish midfielder Angel Martinez managed just three appearances for Chesterfield in August before being sidelined with a knee problem, for which he underwent surgery.

During November’s clash with Town at the Proact Stadium, which Swindon won 4-0, left-sided wide-man Dan Jones had to stretchered off with a fractured ankle but complications in his recovery meant that he had to begin his rehab all over again and the 29-year-old also won’t be featuring again this term.

Saturday’s trip to the County Ground is also likely to come too soon for defender Liam O’Neill, who has missed his team's last four outings with an ankle injury.
