THE morale amongst the squad at Swindon Town has never dropped despite going nine games without tasting victory, according to midfielder Michael Doughty While Tuesday night’s draw with Walsall was a marked improvement on recent displays, it couldn’t stop Swindon’s winless run.

Luke Williams has not recorded a victory since signing his five-year contract, a record that sees him make a worse start than John Gorman, who went eight games before tasting victory for the first time in the cup.

However, Doughty is confident that the team has what it takes to turn things around before the curtain comes down on this campaign.

“Within the camp we have been relatively positive,” he said.

“We have been aware that the results have been poor but we work hard every day and remain positive because we know the quality of the individual and the talent that we have got.

“For us, we will just continue to try and improve each and every day and with all the games remaining.

“If our performances are reflective of the one against Walsall, then we will be picking up some more positive results.”

However, the Queens Park Rangers loanee knows three points to guarantee safety from relegation are not certain when Town play host to struggling Chesterfield today (3pm).

“I wouldn’t use the phrase turning over because it sounds like a foregone conclusion and I think we know in this league that is not the case,” he added.

“Chesterfield is going to be a very difficult game and we have got to be as good, if not better, than against Walsall to pick up three points.”

Doughty sees his loan spell come to an end at the end of the season and says that while he has regrets with how things have panned out on the pitch, his time at the County Ground has been a favourable one.

“From a personal level, I feel like I have contributed quite positively with my performances and I think with this difficult period we have had it has marred it a bit for me because I am competitive person and I want to do well,” he said.

“Over the course of the time so far I have really learnt a lot from a fantastic manager, a set of coaching staff and fantastic group of players.

“I am pleased and a better player and person for that.”
