CHESTERFIELD chief Danny Wilson conceded his team were lucky not to lose even more heavily against Swindon Town after going down 1-0 at the County Ground today.

Yaser Kasim got the only goal of the game late in the second half, capping a strong attacking performance from Town.

Swindon rained in 20 shots on the Spireites’ goal, with Michael Doughty hitting the post and Jonathan Obika blazing over an unguarded net before Kasim finally came up with the winner.

Former Town chief Wilson said Chesterfield simply did not do enough to warrant taking anything home from Wiltshire as they remain four points above the League One relegation zone with two games to go.

“It could have been more than one, quite easily,” said Wilson.

“We never got in the game, never got on top of the way that they move the ball.

“People in areas were being reactive rather than proactive a lot of the time. When we did get on the ball and did have time and space, we gave it away too cheaply and that was the pattern of the game.

“Yes, we had to defend a lot and got little a bit of a break now and again but to concede the goal as we did in that fashion was more disappointing than anything.

“You could come here and get a good pasting and finish 0-0, I would be quite happy with that, but we lost 1-0 and that’s it in a nutshell.

“We have got move on, we can’t do anything about it, we have got two games to save our season from relegation, it’s as simple as that.”

Chesterfield finished the game with 10 men when full-back Charlie Raglan was given his marching orders two minutes from time for a needless foul on Louis Thompson on the halfway line, a challenge that left Wilson unimpressed.

“I’ve got complaints about how he did it. It was stupid, absolutely stupid,” added Wilson.

“If somebody is on a yellow card like that, they should be careful. It’s just mindless.

“It affects your team, no doubt about it, it affects your plans and affects when we wanted to bring substitutes on.

“It completely changed the complexion of the game, both attacking from their point of view and certainly from ours defensively and we couldn’t change it.”
