A SWINDON Town development side were beaten 2-1 by Southend United in the final of the Final Third Development League Southern Cup at the County Ground this afternoon.
Former Town target Jamar Loza netted twice for the Shrimpers, with Jermaine Hylton netting a consolation effort in the 90th minute for a Swindon side including the alleged ‘laughing gas’ trio of Drissa Traore, Jeremy Balmy and Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill.
Reading U21 winger Hammad Lawal came off the bench for Town whilst Northern Ireland U21 international Jordan Stewart, who returned to the club last Friday from his loan at Grimsby Town, was an unused substitute.
Jamie Calvin, who was signed by Swindon in November 2015 but has yet to make a senior appearance, captained the side.
Following a 4-1 win over Plymouth Argyle, 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers and 2-0 loss to Newport County, Town finished top of Southern Group B to book their place in the Southern Cup final alongside Group A winners and eventual champions Southend.
