TRANSFER machinations are very much under way behind the scenes at the County Ground, according to Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams.

As the book closes on Town’s 2015-2016 chapter following Sunday’s 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town, Swindon could be set for another squad overhaul this summer, with a host of players nearing the end of short-term contracts and potential signings being vetted and approached.

Since the conclusion of last season, Town have made 12 permanent signings and brought in 10 men on loan.

As situations involving both members of the current squad and transfer targets develop as the weeks roll by, Williams’ squad will be remodelled on an ad hoc basis but the Swindon chief revealed that the club are already closing in on ‘one or two’ potential new faces for next season.

“I can’t really say anything official at the moment,” the Town head coach told the local media.

“We’re probably close to one or maybe two targets at the moment and of course, there are boys that have been in negotiations with us – our players currently – to extend their deals, so I think all that will be revealed in the very near future.”

The injured Fabien Robert, as well as fellow midfielders Drissa Traore and Jeremy Balmy, both members of last month’s alleged ‘laughing gas’ scandal, weren’t in the Swindon squad that locked horns with Shrewsbury at the weekend, with the trio instead allowed to travel to France.

All three, who joined on free transfers at the start of the season, are out of contract this summer, although Frenchman Robert is believed to have an option of a further year.

Williams said: “Discussions have got to be had regarding the futures of the boys.

“I think it’s fair to say they won’t all be back here.

“There is a possibility that we may see at least one of the boys back at the County Ground potentially.”
