SWINDON Town will be keeping tabs on the future of George Moncur after it was reported that the player would be allowed to leave Colchester United this summer.

The midfielder, who was born in Swindon, was part of the U’s side who were relegated to League Two after finishing their campaign in 23rd spot.

The 22-year-old son of former Town and West Ham United player John Moncur moved to the Colchester Community Stadium back in 2014 from West Ham following a successful loan spell in Essex.

Swindon have been heavily linked with Moncur, who scored 14 goals in 50 appearances last term, in the past but reports suggest that League One rivals Barnsley and Peterborough are in contact with the midfielder about a proposed move.

Back in March, during a fans’ phone-in, Town chairman Lee Power said that Moncur would fit in with the club ethos at the County Ground.

“We like George (Moncur) but he is not our player so it is not for me to speak about him but he is one of those players we would like,” he said.

“Whether he would fit within our budgets and how we play, we will see.

“I know there are a number of Championship clubs in for him and he is a Colchester player but he is definitely a player who fits the way that we play.”
