SWINDON Town kicked off their pre-season campaign in the perfect way as a brace from Jermaine Hylton helped them to a 6-0 win over Swindon Supermarine.

As first day reports go, Luke Williams would have been pleased with how the first outing for his side turned out at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

A debut was handed to John Goddard, who looked comfortable on the ball on the edge of the box, with most of the play going through the former Woking player.

There was also a start for traillist Ronald Huth – the 26-year-old defender, who has picked up one cap for Paraguay, playing to the left of Nathan Thompson at the back.

Swindon started the game well but it was Lawrence Vigouroux, recently signed on a permanent basis from Liverpool, who was forced into the first save of the game, straight from Connor Thompson’s corner in the 10th minute.

It was another ball into the box that had Swindon on the back foot again less than two minutes later, with Vigouroux grateful to his far post.

Josh Parsons played a ball in, deep to the back post, and Thompson rose highest at the back stick but was denied by the woodwork.

Swindon took back control of the book and were in front after 17 minutes when Hylton got his first of the game.

Goddard picked the ball up on the edge of Marine’s box before laying it off to his right and while Hylton’s shot lacked power, it was placed well enough to beat Matt Bulman.

The Town striker, was on the scoresheet again six minutes before the break when he converted from 12 yards.

The 23-year-old had done well to make it to the byline before pulling the ball back and skipper Nathan Thompson was charging onto the ball before being adjudged to have been felled by Zak Westlake.

Town rang the changes at the break as they changed the entire starting XI, with Conor Thomas, let go by Coventry City making his first start for the club since signing.

Another triallist, Jack Powell, who was released by Millwall at the end of last term starting, was also given 45 minutes to impress, alongside another unnamed triallist.

Town continued to look comfortable in the game and it took just seven minutes before their lead was extended further.

Some nice play on the edge of the box saw the ball fall to Brad Barry who drove his effort from the edge of the box past Bulman.

Swindon netted a fourth as Supermarine started to wane, as Ellis Iandolo saw his 69th minute shot parried by Bulman but Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Jonathan Obika got himself off the mark 10 minutes from the end when Thomas played a through ball and Obika took it first time to find the far corner.

Ellis Iandolo wrapped up the scoring with the last touch of the game as Obika laid it on a plate for the young midfielder to finish in the corner.

Swindon Town starting XI: Vigouroux, Thompson, Spalding, Huth, Kasim, Evans, Brophy, Goddard, Smith, Hylton, Stewart.

Swindon Town second half XI: Henry, Branco, Triallist, Sendles-White, Rodgers, Ormonde-Ottewill, Barry, Thomas, Powell, Iandolo, Obika
