SWINDON Town chairman Lee Power says there is work going on behind the scenes to get ‘one or two’ more players through the door at the County Ground before the start of the new season.

Speaking ahead of last night’s 2-1 defeat at home to Championship side Reading, Power admitted that the club’s work had been quiet but that there was plenty going on to try and bring in more new faces to bolster the squad.

Town have made three signings so far this summer, midfielders John Goddard, Conor Thomas and goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, with two-and-a-half weeks to go until Luke Williams’ side kick off their campaign against Coventry City on August 6.

However, with the transfer window not closing until the end of August, almost four weeks into the League One season, Power insists that there is still plenty of time and it might not just be loan players who will be signing on the dotted line between now and September 1.

“Yeah, obviously there is the loan market but I think everyone can see we are not tending to rely on that too much at the moment,” he told BBC Wiltshire.

“There will be loans coming in, just like every other club at this level, but we are looking at one or two others.

“We have been trying in the background like everyone knows, we like to do our business quietly.

“There have been a few that we haven’t managed to get and there are still a few on the radar.”

However, Peterborough United midfielder Harry Beautyman is not one of those players Town are looking to bring in.

Despite Posh director of football Barry Fry stating that Town had shown interest in the midfielder - who played on trial for Town’s League One rivals Oldham Athletic in their friendly defeat to Preston last night - Power laughed it off, but admits that interest in Crystal Palace striker Keshi Anderson, as reported in the Swindon Advertiser last week, is concrete.

“We really like Keshi, he went on loan to Doncaster and scored a lot of goals and then got a broken leg,” added Power.

“Palace think a lot of and he is one that we like but obviously he is a Palace player and we’re just waiting for them to get back from America.”

Manager Williams meanwhile confirmed last week’s Swindon Advertiser story that club favourite Alan McLoughlin will become the club’s new youth team manager.

Williams also expects midfielder Yaser Kasim to rule himself out of Iraq’s Olympic Games squad.
