COVENTRY City have taken former Swindon Town attacking midfielder Fabien Robert on trial.

The Frenchman played the second half in the Sky Blues' 2-0 victory at Newport County on Saturday as he looks to impress manager Tony Mowbray.

The Sky Blues boss told the Coventry Telegraph: "He played at Swindon last year, he's French and we're just having a look really.

"He's a nice kid who has been on the training ground for the last few days and he was in the team today because we were short on a few bodies.

"I thought he did all right but, again, the young players we've often talked about did all right as well and applied themselves to what we asked them to do."

The 27-year-old started his career with Lorient in France where he spent eight years which included a short spell on loan with Championship Doncaster Rovers during the 2012/13 season.

Robert appeared 38 times for Town last season, scoring four times.

Meanwhile, the destination of Crystal Palace forward Keshi Anderson remains a mystery with Doncaster Rovers, at whom he spent a spell on loan last season, also in the hunt.

Town chairman Lee Power admitted last week that Anderson was on the club's radar, as previously reported by the Swindon Advertiser.

Rovers are also keen on taking Anderson back to Yorkshire, but an ankle ligament problem caused by the dislocation that ended the 21 year old's Doncaster spell last season, is complicating matters.

Doncaster chief executive Gavin Baldwin admitted his club were in regular contact with Palace, but that any loan move may have to wait until January.

“Keshi is one that has been mentioned quite a lot,” Baldwin told the Free Press.

“We’re talking to Crystal Palace a lot because Keshi, at the minute, is not in full training.

“That is one to watch, seeing how his fitness goes.

“It could be one that has to wait until January, or he could be fit in August.

“We’re literally talking every other day to Palace.”

Donny boss Darren Ferguson added: “We’re not close to anything with Keshi. The boy is still injured and is not anywhere near the level he needs to be at.

“We’ve had contact with Palace and their manager but percentage wise, I’d say it’s quite low for Keshi to be coming back.

“That’s a combination of things. I know there’s one or two League One clubs in for him.

“Unfortunately that’s one of the prices you have to pay when going down to League Two.

“I’m happy to work with the strikers we’ve got.

“I’ll probably look to add one as we go along and it would probably be something different to Keshi anyway.”

Changes to the loan market mean players can only be signed during the two transfer windows on season and half-season terms, with Anderson's fitness battles meaning he may remain in London with the Eagles' U21 side.

Midfielder Lee Marshall, who left Town at the end of last season, has signed for National League South Bath City for the 2016-17 campaign.

Meanwhile Liverpool have accepted a £6million offer from Premier League rivals Bournemouth for former Swindon Town loan man Brad Smith.

Left-back Smith has been granted permission to hold talks with the Cherries, leaving the Reds' pre-season tour of America to fly back to the UK.

The 22-year-old Academy graduate and Australian international has made 11 senior appearances for Liverpool, making seven appearances on loan for Town in the 2014-15 campaign.
