SWINDON Town have their eye on another forward option as they look to ease a mini striker crisis at the club.

The season may only be less than two weeks old but with Jonathan Obika (groin) and Luke Norris, (ankle) both injured, Swindon were forced to play without a recognised centre-forward during their 1-1 draw with Gillingham on Tuesday night.

Following Saturday’s heavy defeat at Chesterfield, Town head coach Luke Williams admitted that Town were in talks with former Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso with a view to bringing the 25-year-old to the County Ground.

However, an agreement between the two parties failed to come to fruition before Swindon’s trip to Kent on Tuesday.

While talks with the former England U21 international are still ongoing, Williams has said that his club are also hot on the trail of another forward who could be a ‘significant’ addition to the squad should it come off.

Williams would not reveal who the target is at this stage but is hopeful a deal can be done and is also not ruling out the addition of Delfouneso as well.

“We’ve got our eye on somebody who we think will be very important for us if we manage to secure that,” he told BBC Wiltshire.

“We have spoken to Nathan as well and Nathan is considering what we are talking about and what we are putting on the table.

“We know that he has had a fantastic start to his career and for one reason or another, he is not at the level that he should be.

“We know that he is a fantastic player but we have got to make sure that we are bringing in somebody who can perform and he has got to be happy that he wants to commit to us.”

This summer, Town have already shown an interest in taking Crystal Palace striker Keshi Anderson on loan.
