WHEN Luke Williams sends his Swindon Town charges into the fray against Bristol Rovers tomorrow night, the approach the County Ground chief will have taken to get the best out of his side will have been carefully considered.

On Saturday, head coach Williams was dismayed with his team’s below-par display as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Bury, with a slow start and an error by Sean Murray, which led to Hallam Hope’s second goal of the afternoon, contributing to Town’s first defeat of the season at the County Ground.

There is an obvious temptation for Williams to read the riot act ahead of tomorrow’s rearranged clash with Rovers but the Swindon boss is wary of what reaction proverbial teacup-smashing episodes could elicit.

“Sometimes, it can work against you with a group of players that then clam up even more,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire.

“That’s what it looked like (on Saturday). It looked like a nervy start and it looked like nobody wanted to make a mistake and of course, when you think so much about not making mistakes, you make a mistake.

“You need to think more about the positive things you’re going to do and think more about how you’re going to affect the game in a positive way, rather than a negative way.

“That may be the way we try to approach it with the players and try to change their mind-set from the outset of a game.”
