SWINDON Town chairman Lee Power is hopeful that Saturday’s result against Oldham Athletic will have a positive impact on the gate receipts this evening.

Tonight’s game with Northampton Town will be Town’s third consecutive Tuesday night spent at the County Ground and fourth mid-week tie of the season already.

With a full schedule of League One fixtures taking place this evening, Power is hoping that the number of home games being played away from the usual 3pm on a Saturday will not have a detrimental effect on the support the club receives.

“It doesn’t help having Tuesday night matches,” he told BBC Wiltshire.

“They are notoriously low gates up and down (the league).

“We are a very well supported club and we are blessed with that.

“Anyone who went last Tuesday won’t be in a rush to come back but anyone who has seen the result today (Saturday) and what a difficult place (it is) and sees the performance, hopefully they will come back.

“Hopefully, now we can try and string a few results together.”

Meanwhile, on the pitch, Power is looking for more stability as Town look to build on Saturday’s 2-0 win over Oldham.

Luke Williams’ side have endured a mixed bag in their opening nine games as they sit as close to the play-offs as they do the relegation zone and Power is hoping a good result at Boundary Park can be followed up tonight and give some belief to a squad he thinks is capable of challenging higher up the league.

“As bad as we were Tuesday against Bristol Rovers, we were fantastic (on Saturday) and I think 2-0 doesn’t really sum up the game, we could have comfortably won by five or six,” he added.

“Hopefully it will give the lads a bit of confidence and put a few smiles back.

“If we’d have held on last Tuesday and won 1-0, we definitely didn’t deserve it - we got what we deserved, we were terrible.

“I don’t know why because we were probably only (Michael) Doughty away from being our full-strength team.

“You start getting doubts in your mind but it is so early on.

“We have got the players who are capable of doing it, they just need to do it on a more consistent basis.

“They need to go on a little run and have that type of performance every week. I expect us to win more games than we lose.”
