SWINDON Town are constantly on the lookout for new talent to add to their squad, according to head coach Luke Williams.

Although rules have changed this term, preventing Town and chairman Lee Power from plugging gaps using the loan market outside of the specified windows, there is nothing stopping the club from picking up free agents who failed to secure a new side in the summer.

One such player, who has yet to be named by Swindon, was given a chance in last Tuesday’s development game at Peterborough United, scoring twice.

While Williams would not be drawn on the identity of the mystery forward, he always has his eyes peeled for someone who can come in and make an impact.

“I can’t really tell you too much at the minute,” he told BBC Wiltshire.

“We are always looking and there are many talented players out of contract at the moment.

“Such is the climate in England, it’s so difficult now. There is so much competition for contracts, so it’s always worth us keeping our eye on what’s around.”

While a new striker seems an obvious area for recruitment, with Town heading into tonight’s game with Rochdale having not found the back of the net in 351 minutes of competitive football, Williams is keen to get Nathan Delfouneso back in the groove.

On Saturday, the 25-year-old was handed a lone role up top and while it didn’t prove fruitful as Swindon were held to a 0-0 draw at AFC Wimbledon, Williams is confident that a first league goal is not far away.

“I think, parts of it, he will have enjoyed because he got more grass to run into,” he added.

“It looked like him and Sean Murray were going to be able to maybe link up and provide for one another but they didn’t quite make that final pass.

“I think there are elements of the game that are more difficult when you play like that and elements that are more enjoyable probably for the front players.

“We have had Nathan higher up the pitch with lots of people close to him and dominating games but we’ve not managed to win enough games in that manner, so it was a change there and something new.”
