SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams is looking to turn things around quickly at the club as he tries to work out the best strategy moving forward.

Prior to last Saturday’s defeat at home to Walsall, it has seemed that Town had landed on a winning formula as they moved away from playing three at the back to allow for injuries.

However, the flaws in the new system were quickly exposed at the County Ground and with a trip to league-leading Scunthorpe United looming, Williams is all too aware how quickly his team's form – Town have one win in their last nine – needs to turn around.

With a full week in training under his side's belts, with some players also involved in the midweek development game at Exeter City, Williams, who has admitted his frustrations at not being able to pinpoint the reason behind Swindon's inconsistency, is hoping they will be fully prepared to head to Glanford Park.

“I will try and find some perfect formula that works for this group in particular but we all need to help each other and be responsible,” he told the local media.

“Of course, it starts with me and the players need to make sure that they are, all the time, giving their best and preparing and (are) focused for each game.

“After a 3-0 victory at home, you feel like you have found some answers and you try to repeat a similar week and focus on the same things you focused on, and it is a completely different performance.

“You think you have arrived at one point and possibly, we haven’t.

“We need to keep trying to find answers all the time so that we can be a consistent team.”

Swindon head into the weekend in a familiar position, just a place outside the relegation zone with a point separating them and Coventry City.

Despite having not been drawn into the clutches of the bottom four yet this term and with two-thirds of the season remaining, time is on Williams' side but he is all too aware that Town need to start picking up results if they are to keep the baying crowds from the door.

“It always concerns you, especially with over a quarter of the season gone,” he added.

“We are fortunate enough to have time to try and turn it around but we need to have some consistency.

“The fans' reaction is to be expected. It’s not a huge issue for me.

“If you don’t like that, don’t work in football – unless you win every single game.”
