STRIKER Luke Norris admits that he's so far failed to deliver in front of goal for Swindon Town but has backed himself to turn it around.

Norris has found the net just once for Town since signing from League One rivals Gillingham over the summer, opening his account in his 18th appearance for the club in the Checkatrade Trophy clash at Exeter City on November 8.

The 23-year-old is now striving to break his duck in the league and is confident that the drought will be over soon.

When asked if the pressure was off following his maiden Town goal, Norris said: “Not really. It’s still not enough for me personally, which is clear to see.

“It is funny how one gets disallowed at Eastleigh and then the same sort of goal counts at Exeter, where it’s cleared off the line. I think they were both over but that’s football and there will be more to come.

“I am desperate (to score a first league goal), it’s taken far too long. It’s something that I don’t know why it’s happened because I have done it numerous times before in previous seasons. I am hoping it will come soon.

“It did (affect me psychologically) but I have learned to deal with it. I know it’s going to come because I have done it before. I think this is the longest ever (I have gone without scoring), I think the longest I went before was only about six or seven (games).

“It is one of those things but I know it’ll be over soon enough.

“I have all my personal targets and people have a target for you and what they expect. I haven’t delivered on that front, it’s fair to say, but hopefully it will turn around and be a good new year.”

After registering his first Town goal, Norris led the line for the side in the next two fixtures but has since seen Jonathan Obika take his place at head of the attack following his return to fitness.

Norris has no qualms with dropping to the bench and knows he has to produce the goods on the pitch to force the Swindon coaching staff into a re-think.

“That’s football, that happens, you bide your time and you go again,” said Norris.

“You can only do what you can on the training pitch and when you are called upon in the remainder of games, if it is the last 20 minutes of whatever, then you have got to impress then and it’s down to me to put that message in the staff’s minds.”
