SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams is hoping new signing Ben Gladwin will provide an extra dimension to his League One strugglers.

The 24-year-old had returned from his first loan spell at the County Ground to parent club Queens Park Rangers before Williams took caretaker charge of the club last January.

However, Gladwin has returned for a second temporary stint since his permanent move to the Championship side in May 2015, in a deal that sees him in Wiltshire until the end of the season.

Williams worked closely with Gladwin on the training field during Town’s 2014/15 campaign, which ended in a play-off final at Wembley, and knows exactly what he is getting but is expecting even more from a player who he feels has developed in the Championship.

“I’m very excited to have Ben back and he’s a player that can give us something different that we haven’t got at the moment,” he told the club’s official website.

“He’s a match-winner and it will be a big boost for the players to see him in the changing room.

“He’s grown as a player since he left and went to QPR and has experienced the Championship and working with top players so we’re very lucky and we’re very pleased to see him back here.”

Gladwin started for Rangers in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup to Blackburn Rovers but prior to that, his last league appearance was as a second-half substitute against Derby County on December 14, having only made eight appearances for the Championship side all season.

R’s manager Ian Holloway has admitted that finding the right role for Gladwin at Loftus Road has proved difficult, being overrun with number 10s, but Williams hopes the man Swindon plucked from non-league obscurity can fire them clear of the relegation zone and has no concerns about a lack of game time.

“Our clean sheet record is fairly impressive so if we can score more goals, then we’ve got a great chance to win a lot of games in the second half of the season and Ben can help us to do that by assisting and scoring himself,” added Williams.

“He’s desperate to play and he knows a lot of people at the club and he feels comfortable here – hopefully that will help bring the best out of him.”
