NEW recruit Fankaty Dabo says the rave reviews he received about Swindon Town both from Wiltshire and at parent club Chelsea meant he had little hesitation in heading to the County Ground.

Earlier this month, Town snapped up full-back Dabo from the Premier League leaders as well as fellow youngsters Charlie Colkett and Islam Feruz, with the trio signing on loan until the end of the season.

All three have started both of Swindon’s League One fixtures since their arrival as they look to add fresh impetus to the stuttering side and haul them up the table.

Former Town player Adi Viveash has been crucial to the trio’s progression into professional players in his current role as manager of Chelsea’s development squad.

However, he was not the only member of the Blues’ backroom staff to convince Dabo to say yes when Town director of football Tim Sherwood came calling for the trio’s services.

“A lot of people, not just Adi, spoke well of the club and highly of the club,” said 21-year-old Dabo, who is in his first loan spell away from Stamford Bridge.

“Jim Fraser (Chelsea academy coach) and one of the physios, Stuart Vaughan, who I am sure was here, spoke very highly of the club and the way they play.

“They told me it would definitely be good for my development, so I didn’t have to think twice about coming here.

“Before I did put pen to paper, I spoke to Tim and he gave me that reassurance and confidence to come here and told me the way Swindon play, which everyone else had told me, and stressed it, so he did give that confidence to come here as well.”

Striker Feruz, also 21, is slightly further down the development road than Dabo as Town are the fifth different side Chelsea have sent him out on loan to.

He has previously been at Blackpool and Scottish side Hibernian, as well as having stints in both Greece and Belgium.

The Scotland U21 striker says a team’s style is the most important factor when he is looking for a new temporary home, so Town were the perfect fit.

Feruz said: “Before I came here, they told me about Swindon and the type of football they play.

“Obviously as a striker, with my size, it is very important that the team plays football and keeps the ball on the ground.

“When I came here, in the first game against Bolton they showed just that and I enjoyed it.”
