OXFORD United manager Michael Appleton claims Swindon Town will come under scrutiny following the antics that proceeded the final whistle during last weekend’s derby encounter.

In the aftermath of Town’s 2-1 defeat to their close rivals at the County Ground, skipper Nathan Thompson and Oxford’s Chris Maguire had to be pulled apart and it appears that fracas continued into the tunnel.

There has yet to be a conclusion to what happened, with the FA having carried out enquiries with both clubs in the wake of the game but yet to charge either club.

However, Appleton, who sported a cut under his eye during his post-match interview last Sunday but refused to go into detail at the time, says he would be ‘shocked’ if there were any repercussions for his side.

“I’m sure (Swindon) will have a few questions to answer regarding what happened afterwards,” he said.

“I know Luke Williams came out afterwards and said something about a spitting incident, which I’ve got absolutely no idea about whatsoever.

“Nothing was said in the manager’s office after the game, so I’m sure if anything did happen like that the first person he would’ve spoken to would’ve been me.

“The only person who was a little bit angry and disappointed after the game was me, but I’m going to leave that to the FA and people who deal with that to come back with the right answers.

“I would be shocked if there was (a charge) and we would fight that as strongly as you can if that was the case.”
