THE ODDS will be stacked against Swindon Town Ladies when they cross the Severn Bridge on Sunday.

Town are back in action in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division but face the daunting prospect of travelling to Cardiff City Ladies (kick-off 2pm), who have only tasted one league defeat to date this season.

Steve Robertson’s Swindon, who are currently ninth in the table, having won two and lost 12 of their 14 league assignments so far, will travel to the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence in Caerphilly looking to improve on their previous showing against the Bluebirds.

The Welsh outfit, who have twice had spells in the National Division – the top-tier of women’s football in England that was replaced by the Women’s Super League – ran out 4-0 winners at Barrington Park on October 6.

Town haven’t played since their 3-1 loss at Lewes on January 29, with their home clash with West Ham United on February 5 falling foul of a waterlogged pitch.

Last season’s South West Division One champions have lost their last six games while fourth-placed Cardiff, who are three points off leaders Tottenham Hotspur, also come in off the back of defeat, with the Bluebirds having suffered a 2-0 home reverse at the hands of fellow title-chasers Charlton Athletic last Sunday.
