ON-LOAN Swindon Town striker Islam Feruz has been fined £3,000 and banned from driving for 18 months after admitting to driving whilst disqualified.

The 21-year-old appeared at Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace Court today for sentencing, after pleading guilty last month to driving an £80,000 Porsche without any insurance.

The incident happened in the early hours of September 9, 2015, where he was stopped by police on Nelson Street, Glasgow.

On being stopped, prosecutors claimed the Chelsea youth player attempted to pervert the course of justice by telling police he was Saeed Cabadella, but his not guilty plea to that charge was accepted.

Feruz, who joined Swindon in January on a temporary deal until the end of the season, was due to go on trial last year but failed to appear because he was training in Tanzania.

The court heard how Feruz, who had been in a nightclub beforehand, gave police officers his details and on checking the police national computer, it was revealed he was banned, with his licence not due to be returned until February last year, once he had sat an extended driving test.

The striker’s defence claimed that Feruz had borrowed the car to drive a short distance.

Sheriff Mary McCrory handed down the £3,000 fine, which Feruz has 28 days to pay, and further disqualified him from driving until August 2018.

Feruz started the first three games with Town, having joined the club last month, but after the arrival of Nicky Ajose at the County Ground, has been left out of Luke Williams’ matchday squads - a victim of Swindon having seven temporary players on their books, with only five places available.

At this time, Swindon Town are making no comment on the sentencing.
