LUKE Williams says those Swindon Town players fined by the club for a breach of discipline need to win back his trust before they are to be considered for selection again.

Lawrence Vigouroux, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, James Brophy and Jordan Stewart were all hit by internal sanctions for what head coach Williams deemed as inappropriate conduct in the build-up to last Tuesday’s match against League One leaders Sheffield United.

The quartet were also dropped from the matchday squad as Town continued their battle to beat the drop against the Blades, although goalkeeper Vigouroux has since reclaimed his place and returned to the starting XI for the subsequent defeat at Bradford City on Saturday.

However, that was perhaps only due to necessity following a mistake by teenage back-up keeper Will Henry that contributed to Town’s loss at the hands of United.

Williams says those players marginalised by the club in the past 10 days must prove they are fully committed to the cause of keeping Town in the division before they are to see action on a match day again.

“From what I can gather, all of the players that have been disciplined are going to accept the fine and they understand that they now need to build up some more credit in the bank and build the trust again,” said Williams.

“Everybody has to prove to me that they are completely on board otherwise they are not going to be involved because I am not going to let people down by putting anybody on the pitch that’s not willing to give everything.

“It’s unacceptable but at the same time, I think it would have been irresponsible of me to put Will Henry back in (against Bradford).

“He suffered a lot in the previous game so Lawrence was brought back in to relieve Will of another potentially very, very difficult game.”

Wing-back Brophy was also part of the Town squad at Valley Parade over the weekend, although ultimately did not make it into the final matchday 18, with Williams suggesting he has shown enough contrition to be further down the road to reintegration.

“James Brophy travelled as 19th man because one player was going into the game with a knock but came through a fitness test fine in the morning, so James was 19th man outside the squad,” said Williams.

“He has done everything correctly and he needs to continue that every single day and prove that he is able to help us on the pitch and off the pitch and try to take part in this fight to try to stay in League One.”
