LUKE Norris has called on his teammates to come together now more than ever if they are to stand a chance of survival.

In what has been an incredibly difficult few weeks, on and off the pitch, the striker believes that there are still plenty of points on offer to keep the County Ground men in the third tier of the Football League.

But while Town find themselves seven points adrift from safety, events off the field – like Lawrence Vigouroux, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, James Brophy and Jordan Stewart’s breach of club discipline – make life even harder.

“The last few weeks have been very tough, I don’t switch off from it,” Norris said. “(With) the position we are in, I’m not one to forget about it and hope someone else will pick the pieces up.

“We are all in it together, we need to pull together and pull our weight - especially now because these last few games are crucial. It is playing on my mind because we are struggling, but we need to start performing and that starts on Saturday.

“That is something (the fining of the four players), that happened behind closed doors with certain players and that is certain decisions at the wrong times.

“Really that is not good enough, considering where we are as a team and how sort of connected I thought we all were.

“It is disappointing to know that things like that do happen and certainly it doesn’t help our position.”

With 21 points on offer between this afternoon’s visit from Millwall (1.30pm) and the trip to Charlton Athletic on April 30, the former Gillingham striker says they have to keep fighting.

“We are not down until it is mathematically impossible for us to stay up, so with seven games left we still have a chance of staying up,” the 23-year-old said.

“Football can change so quickly, everyone knows that. A few results go our way and all of a sudden everyone starts believing a bit more, but none of us have quit yet, we have still got seven games, there are 21 points to play for and that is more than enough to stay up.

“Every single game is now three points or it is not good enough.”

Although Town’s top goalscorer would rather be in Luke Williams’ starting XI, Norris, who has netted six goals this term, knows that he has to shine as much as he can in the time that is given.

“I have got to make an impact in the minutes that I’m given whether that be five, 10, 20,” he said.

“I feel that I have done that when I have come off the bench at Northampton, Port Vale and Bradford.

“I feel like I have been making an impact, but there is nothing better than starting.”
