PHYSIO Paul Godfrey has left Swindon Town after more than five years at the club to take up a new role at Championship side Cardiff City.

Godfrey joined Town’s medical team in September 2011 having previously worked at Notts County but departs to take up the post of head of medical services at the Bluebirds.

Town Academy physio Tom Holmes will step up to work with the first team until the end of the season.

Swindon head coach Luke Williams was sad to see Godfrey go, with the duo having worked together on the staff at the County Ground since the former’s arrival in the summer of 2013, but wished him well for the future.

“From what I understand, it is a fantastic opportunity for him,” said Williams.

“I am very, very pleased for him because he has given a long time to this club, something like six seasons.

“We are sorry to see him go but I am very pleased for him and his family.

“We have got cover. One door closes and another one opens for somebody.

“In the same way as the players, it’s an opportunity for somebody to say I am ready for this environment and am ready to work at the next level at first-team level.

“That’s the natural evolution of a football club, particularly of this size. It is a club where opportunities are given to people.”
