SWINDON Town’s development side recorded only their second win in the Central League Development League with a 2-1 success at home to Southend United.

Ellis Iandolo had put Swindon back on level terms less than three minutes after Sonny Couts opening goal in the third minute.

And it was Jermaine Hylton’s penalty in the 76th minute that wrapped up the three points after substitute Scott Twine had been felled in the box.

It took less than three minutes for the visitors to break the deadlock as a corner from the left was nodded down at the back post into the six-yard box and Jason Williams could only miss-hit his attempt but Coutts was on hand to fire home.

Swindon were able to respond almost immediately as they broke on Southend with numbers and with four waiting in the box, Jesse Starkey found Iandolo, whose initial shot was blocked but the teenager reacted well and made no mistake with his second attempt, drilling it into the near corner.

The game remained open at both ends and Southend should have restored their lead after 10 minutes when Town were caught in possession playing out from the back but with only Will Henry to beat, Harry Phillips fired wide of the target.

James Brophy, playing at the tip of a diamond midfield, won his side a free-kick on the edge of the box after a rash challenge from Dan Matsuzacna in the 25th minute, with Anton Rodgers seeing his effort palmed around the post by Josh Bexon.

Despite the lively start, the intensity levels had dropped by the time the half-time whistle blew, with David Mooney’s header over the bar the closest either side came.

Swindon started the second half the brighter of the two teams and after some good work from Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill down the left, Jermaine Hylton could only see his effort on the half volley fizz past the post.

With Town ringing the changes shortly after the hour mark, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill was afforded plenty of time down the left but his shot for the far corner went just wide of the mark.

Another chance fell the way of Hylton in the 70th minute but he could only blaze over the bar after being found in space in the box.

With Town now on top, the goal eventually came for the hosts when Ormonde-Ottewill saw his initial effort on goal in the box saved but Twine reacted quickest to the rebound and was tripped by Jordan Williams.

Hylton stepped up to take the resulting penalty and calmly chipped his effort down the middle with Bexon hapless diving to his right.
